Classes

We offer a variety of classes in two “tracks.”

Beginning, intermediate and advanced dancers progress through the levels of their chosen dance genres as they improve their technique and knowledge of each genre’s dance steps.  These dancers are on track to become a part of our Junior and Senior Stars Company. The Company participates in dance competitions, if they choose, as well as special performances and events. These classes are for students who are able to attend class every week (with exceptions for occasional illness). There are several performance opportunities including parades, Christmas and community performances culminating in our Spring Recital.

Recreational dancers learn dance techniques and new steps over the course of the fall or spring session as they learn a dance routine. These classes are paid per semester and are made for students who may not be able to attend every week. These are also excellent classes for beginning, intermediate and advanced dancers to practice their technique. These dancers have the option to perform at our “Light the Street” Christmas performance and our Spring Recital.

Ballet

Beginning with our preschool dancers, ballet teaches the classical form of dance.  This is the best genre of dance for beginners as it is the basis for many other dance forms.

Lyrical

For dancers 3rd grade and older who have taken ballet, lyrical combines some movements from ballet and other types of dance to lyrically and emotionally interpret music.

Contemporary

For dancers 3rd grade and older who have taken ballet, contemporary dance combines ballet and modern dance techniques.

Pointe

For dancers around 12 years old who have demonstrated strong ballet technique and the required strength, pointe utilizes special pointe shoes with reinforcement in the toe and sole that allow the dancer to perform ballet on her toes.

Jazz

For dancers in Kindergarten and older, jazz is a more energetic genre of dance typically performed to pop music.

Hip Hop

For dancers who have taken jazz, hip hop incorporates jazz technique with “street” dancing, typically to hip hop music.

Tap

Beginning with our preschool dancers, tap dance utilizes tap shoes with attached metal plates to create percussive sounds.

Tumbling

For our younger dancers, tumbling includes mat work, balance beam and trampoline to encourage balance and stretching.

Variety Class

Our variety class will combine several types of dance, including jazz and hip hop, with singing, pom poms, acting and other performing arts.  This class is for dancers of all abilities and will be similar to musical theater or show choir.

Adult Dance

Dancers in the 9th grade through adults (we currently have dancers in their 70s) will learn routines incorporating jazz, hip hop, ballet and other types of dance for fun and exercise.  Performance opportunities are always optional!  This is a good class for high school beginning, intermediate and advanced dancers to practice their technique.
